A Night at Roy’s 2017

Thank you so much to everyone who attended this year’s A Night at Roy’s event! With your help, we’re continuing our mission to help keep children and teens safe through our MBF Child Safety Matters™ Prevention Education Series. These primary prevention programs address the most common types of victimization experienced by children and young adults, including bullying, abuse, digital dangers, and more.

Because of your support, this year’s event was a huge success with over 400 attendees and $55,000 raised to help protect children!

We kicked off the night with live musical performances from Colleen Orender and Kurt Stevens. As delicious appetizers were being passed around, attendees got to meet and greet with Master Chef Roy Yamaguchi and digital safety and citizenship expert Richard Guerry. Inside Roy’s Restaurant, there were an array of amazing items up auction on the silent auction table such as fabulous jewelry, tropical getaways, spa services, and much, much more!

WJXT’s own Mary Baer kicked off the program with kind words about the foundation, and introduced Development Director Paul Woods who thanked our incredible sponsors. Up next, special guest Richard Guerry spoke to attendees about the importance of digital safety and citizenship, and how supporters of the MBF Child Safety Matters program are helping keep the children they love safe both online and off.

After that, there was a special surprise speech given by our founder, Ed Burr’s sons. They talked about how proud they were of their father for carrying on the legacy of their late mother, Monique, and for being able to help protect children for 20 years. After a few deserved hugs and raising a glass to the foundation, Ed also said a few words about our history, mission and the MBF Child Safety Matters program.

Up next in the program, we had the honor of hearing from child sexual abuse and domestic violence survivor Lt. Lakesha Burton from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. And finally, the ladies of Kappa Delta at the University of North Florida presented the foundation with a check for over $17,000!

After all the program speeches and presentations, Mr. MG Orender led us in a spirited live auction where fabulous prizes such as a Vail vacation, a 5-star hotel stay, and a wine pairing night at Roy’s were auctioned off.
